Also, a couple things I forget to say in the video- thanks Mom and Dad! I wish you could have been here. I miss you and can't wait to have you be there for the Philly Marathon in 2013!
And Happy Veterans Day to all of the men and women serving or who have served as well as their families. I am so thankful for your service.
And a big thank you to Paul for being both a member of our armed services as well as my biggest fan and supporter through this whole half marathon training. Love you babe!
As for the race- well, today...
I made sure to thank every Vet and Active military member I came upon.
And high five anybody that had an outstretched arm.
And wave and smile and thank the spectators.
And laugh at all of the amazing signs.
And ask people who could barely walk if they wanted to lean on me for support.
And enjoy every hot, sweaty, painful minute of it. The good and the bad.
Because any day that I can put one foot in front of the other for 13.1 miles makes even the bad times good.
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!
ReplyDeleteAnd, also, I'm really glad that you said you wanted to kick yourself in the face every time you said you felt disappointed in your pace. You freaking did it. Do you remember the part where last year you didn't know that you could run a mile?! Absolutely amazing.
Every run is different, you know that. Even if you felt "slow" today 1. it was very hot 2. You're recovering from an injury 3. you're recovering from being sick as of YESTERDAY! It's totally okay to go slower with all that going on because you didn't get defeated physically or mentally! (And even if you did, you got over it and freaking finished!)
Pipe dream no more! You are great my half marathon finishing friend!
(Also, I cracked up on "Most of it's mine!"Hahaha!)
I just want to give you a like a zillion hugs!! You did this - you trained and you had a plan that you executed and you did it! Congratulations - you are so inspiring to me and I love you for that. By the way - that medal is all you baby! You put in the hard work and you absolutely deserve it!
ReplyDeleteBy the way - had a chat yesterday with my coach about what to do after the half and she said to try to walk around the day after - maybe just a mile or two but something to get the blood moving and work out some of the lactic acid built up in your legs. Thought I'd share that little bit with you.
So many hugs and high fives for you dear friend.
xo
You are a rock star my friend!! I wanted to reach through my phone and give you a big HUGE hug while I was watching your video! You did soooo good! I know you were disappointed in your pace and it seems like all of us are come race day. You are an inspiration! Thanks for joining my club :)
ReplyDeleteYou finished your first half marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heart you,
Melanie
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!! You are such an inspiration to me, Dacia. I hope you're feeling much better by now. You rock! :)
ReplyDeleteAww.. you totally made me cry!! I felt the same way after my first half.. pretty overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you girl.. I knew you could do it! Even though your pace was slower, I hope deep down you understand it really is OK .. its just a time, but especially after being sick, injury & the heat. Plus running out of water! The heat will almost ALWAYS slow us down. Have you considered getting a handheld bottle? They are so easy to carry... you can't even really tell you're 'carrying' it. It just kind of hangs there. Maybe you should check them out for future runs so you don't run out next time. You can always refill at aid stations or water stops. I sip on mine constantly.. it's like an IV I carry :)
PS I love that you did a video!! I may have to steal this idea because I am SO BAD at blogging. Did you use your Mac or how did you actually make it?
Congratulations once again girl... you are an inspiration to so many.. Don't forget that!
PSS ... When's the next half? :)
You are the amazing on Dacia! I wish I had a way to send Paul to you to give you a big hug. I know he is so proud of you because he has witnessed first hand how much time, sweat & tears you put into your training. We are all so proud of you. Like you said, you did something that you never thought possible. The next time you come across something that you think you can't do, think of the moment when you crossed the finish line. Think of how awesome it feels to hold that medal in your hand. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to.
ReplyDeleteYou're adorable! I really wish I hadn't taken my first half for granted and could've appreciated it for what it was. I'm so happy that you have had this opportunity and that you'll have it with you forever. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYou are AMAZING. It's so great to hear your voice and see you! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOLd at 'want to kick myself in the face'. LOL I <3 you!
Congrats,I am so proud of you Dacia! Not only did you run the half marathon, but you finished strong with everything you had going on(an injury, being sick, etc). I think you're so amazing!!
