FMM: All About the Blog

It’s been awhile since I have participated in Friend Makin’ Mondays- I’m not even sure I have since I started this new blog- but I loved these questions and wanted to share with you my responses. Plus I just spent most of my weekend in NOLA with Kenlie (more on that later, so stay tuned) so I am definitely feeling quite inclined to participate in something that is important to her.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section over at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Make sure you share your link over at All the Weigh so everyone can see your responses. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

All about the Blog

1.       How long have you been blogging? I started blogging in February of 2011- so about 32 months, give or take. This blog, however, is relatively new still. I have only been Run. Ride. Repeat. since August of 2012.

2.       What is the overwhelming theme of your blog? At first I think the idea behind this blog was for me to share my adventures in running, cycling and any other type of fun active stuff- you know, kind of moving away from the weight loss theme of my previous blog. I was changing my focus and my life and I wanted a blog that better reflected that. Now though, I think the theme of my blog is just all things Dacia. I pretty much write about anything/everything in my life and so far no one has really complained about the lack of dedicated running/riding posts lately so that’s good.

3.       Have you connected with people in person after meeting them through blogging? YES! And I love it! I attended Fitbloggin’ this past June and I met so many wonderful people there that I had ‘known’ for so long (and met a ton that I hadn’t known, too, which was equally awesome) and it was the best thing. I have been lucky to have met other bloggers here in town as well as through my travels back home and when I was in Boston and even this weekend in NOLA and have been able to share alot of one on one time, which is great. Being able to meet people that I have connected with on so many levels, people that inspire me and motivate me, people that have been my light at the end of the tunnel is pretty freaking amazing!

4.       What do you enjoy most about blogging?  Most- that’s a tough one. I would say I really love blogging because it’s a place for me to be myself, an outlet for all the random crap inside my head, for the support and for this wonderful community of friends blogging has led me too. It’s awesome!

5.       How often do you blog? Probably not enough. Not nearly as much as most other bloggers. I aim for a few times a week. Sometimes I only get in one post, sometimes I can squeeze in 4 or 5. It really depends on how busy I am and the fact that I rarely post on the weekends doesn’t help. I know I should write more frequently, and I want to, but it really isn’t my first priority- you know?

6.       Share one thing that you don’t like about blogging. Personally, sometimes it is hard for people who don’t know me (and sometimes even those who do) in real life to sense the tone I am writing in. That’s true for everything though right? Texts, emails, etc. it is hard to gauge the writers tone. So sometimes I worry people misconstrue what I am meaning. But that is life and unless I want to do all video blogs I really can’t change that.

7.       Do you talk about your blog in everyday life? Yes and no. I mean, it isn’t a secret but I don’t really talk about it with everyone. All of my friends know about it and some even read it but a lot of my coworkers and probably most of my family don’t.

8.       What is the coolest and most unexpected thing that has happened to you as a result of blogging? I lost 125 pounds and made some of the most amazing friends along the way. I have found self-love and acceptance. I am the happiest I have ever been. I am strong, adventurous and willing to take risks. I am living an active and healthy life. And all of these things happened because I started blogging.

9.       Are there topics that are off-limits on your blog? If so, name a few… I will openly discuss pretty much anything on the blog that pertains to me. I try to not talk about anyone else though. With permission I have talked about my family and my mom’s cancer. I will probably never discuss private details of my marriage, or any relationships for that matter, since those are not mine to share. You can ask me anything Dacia related and more than likely I will tell you. :)

10.   If you could accomplish one thing through your blog before the end of this year, what would you want to accomplish?  This is a tough one. I would like to be able to help people the way others have helped me so that is always an underlying goal of pretty much everything I do.  Other than that, I have some ideas but nothing I have set in stone.

Triathlon Training Recap: Week 3 & Week 4

Here is my recap of weeks three and four of my eight week triathlon training plan. Travel/Fitbloggin’ , plus the readjustment time after, made it a bit difficult to get in all of the planned training sessions these past two weeks but I am not disappointed. That’s the way life works- it’s not always easy to fit everything in. I chose to sacrifice a few swims and runs for the sake of enjoying my vacation, trying new workouts, and getting lots of sleep after. And it’s not like I was being lazy; in two weeks I only took one rest day. My body felt really good with the workouts and activities I was doing so I was able to get in a lot of activity- even if it wasn’t always running, biking and swimming.

Week 3 Plan:

Monday- strength training

Tuesday- bike 50, strength training

Wednesday- run 35

Thursday – swim 30, run 20

Friday- rest

Saturday – run 40

Sunday – swim 30, run 45

Total planned for week 3: two strength sessions, 140 minutes running, 50 minutes biking, 60 minutes swimming

Week 3 Actual:

Monday- AM: bike 50 PM: barre class

Tuesday- AM: run 35 min PM: barre and reformer session

Wednesday- AM: run 30 min PM: barre class

Thursday- rest/travel day

Friday- boot camp and cardio dance

Saturday- yoga and jump fitness

Sunday – run/walk 5K

Actuals for week 3: three strength sessions plus four additional group fitness classes, 95 minutes running, 50 minutes biking, 0 minutes swimming

+1 strength session, -45 minutes running, -60 minutes swimming

Week 4 Plan:

Monday- swim 30, run 15

Tuesday- strength training

Wednesday- bike 40, run 10

Thursday – run 30, strength training

Friday- rest

Saturday – run 45

Sunday – swim, bike, run 30

Total planned for week 3: two strength sessions, 130 minutes running, 70 minutes biking, 60 minutes swimming

Week 4 Actual:

Monday- AM: barre class and reformer session

Tuesday- barre class

Wednesday- barre class

Thursday- barre class

Friday- 60 min bike

Saturday- run 30 (5K), barre class, reformer session

Sunday – 60 min bike

Actuals for week 4: five strength sessions, 30 minutes running, 120 minutes biking, 0 minutes swimming

+3 strength sessions, +10 min biking,  -100 minutes running, -60 minutes swimming

The last two weeks I was unable to swim because I did not have access to, or the weather didn’t allow me to swim in, a pool or open water so that sucked. But, on the bright side, my swim lessons start tomorrow and because of that I will be able to get in at least two swim sessions a week here on out.  Yay!

My running wasn’t too great the past two weeks either; week 3 I was just too busy at FB to go for a run (but I still worked out and walked a ton) and last week I took the mornings off from the gym trying to get back into a normal sleep pattern, especially with the holiday midweek. This week I am hopeful though, I think I will be able to get in all of my training sessions as planned.

Week 5 Plan:

Monday- strength training

Tuesday- bike 30, strength training

Wednesday- run 40

Thursday – swim 30, run 25

Friday- rest

Saturday – run 50

Sunday – swim 30, run 45

Total planned for week 5: two strength sessions, 160 minutes running, 30 minutes biking, 60 minutes swimming

Wish me luck this week. The running is really starting to increase which is a good thing because next week starts week one of my 12 week half marathon training plan. I will be trying to balance both training plans for the three weeks left until the triathlon. That should be interesting ;)

{Semi} Wordless Wednesday: Fitbloggin' Style

I am sure you knew this was coming. Like I've said before, I have over 400 pictures from this weekend so of course this WW (and possibly more to come- if you are up for it) is dedicated to Fitbloggin'. Just another glimpse into an amazing weekend.

 Me and Bang...Bang and I...neither sounds correct...LOL!

Lunch at Veggie Grill. I ate there three times. I am still dreaming about that mac n' cheese!

My awesome roomie Brooke! Her shirt says 'I'm not a player, I just blog alot'. Awesome!

Upstairs bar at the Nines, the hotel where we stayed and Fitbloggin' was held

I just love these two pictures of Alan and Brooke...

 Mind....

...Blown

One of the many things I loved about Portland- it is super bike friendly!

Dinner at Portobello...the restaurant was beautiful. They hand drew those images onto the wall...

After dinner with; Kelly, Brooke, Lindsay, and Annabel

Making faces with Erika..it's what we do best!

The table we chose to sit at for lunch was the 'Very Hungry' table...which was fitting.

Erika edited our table tent to read 'Very Hungry and Super Pretty'- also quite fitting

Saw this a few times and each time it scared the shit out of me....so creepy! Why???

 Annabel welcoming us to Petunia's!

And in case you haven't seen my posts on FB or Twitter- I bought my first ever bikini!

The most amazing retail employees ever! They made my experience at Bettie Page so wonderful!

Him: How is your life going
Me: Pretty good, I'm pretty happy
Him: change everything!
That was some pretty good bad advice...

 Yum!!!

Action shot! I think I have two dozen pictures just of people taking pictures. Not sure why, but that always makes me laugh...I'm just weird like that ;)

 Crazy bikes...

Someone told me what these were called but I forgot. Big out in SLC. They are giant!

 Voodoo!

Second most intimidating purchase of the trip- one piece triathlon suit. At least it's damn comfy even if I do feel like a sausage...Lol!

Saw this picture at Nia HQ and it brought me to tears. The beautiful woman in the blue skirt is my friend and mentor from San Antonio. She helped me find my self-love and acceptance and for that I am eternally grateful. I miss her so much words cannot even describe it!

I love Nia! And if you were at Fitbloggin' and you loved the cardio dance class I highly recommend checking out Nia. It changed my life! And it's all over the country- not just Portland.

Powell's- I could have spent a week in this store!

What's up with the creepy heads? Is that a Portland thing? @ McMenamin's Crystal Ballroom

No pennies? And who returns doughnuts anyhow? Lol!

 I believe it!

Unfortunately this is all I got to see of Chinatown. Next visit I will definitely come down here!

 Late night goodbyes...Miss you Annabel!

A RRR first- I ran across a bridge...twice! It was so cool!

SWAG!!! I had a whole second bag just filled with free goodies from Fitbloggin'!

My personal purchases; bikini, tri suit, bicycle socks, and a Rogue tshirt!

Maps, card, lots of business cards, my badge, and an amazing gift from and amazing woman!

I just have to thank Roni and the whole Fitbloggin' crew for putting on an amazing event! It far exceeded my expectations- and I had pretty high expectations!

Also, a big freaking thank you to Erika who was the best tour guide ever! We were literally lost without you on Saturday night! Also, thank you for being so accomodating and eating so much damn vegan food. You are amazing person (who looks smoking hot in shorts) and I am so thankful I got to spend the weekend with you! Love ya!

Fitbloggin' Recap Part 2

I wanted to write a Fitbloggin’ recap that addressed the more serious side of what happened last weekend; the small group discussions (and even just time spent with friends) that were very introspective and forced me to really think long and hard about my actions, the person I am, the person I hope one day to be and what I need to do to get there.

I actually did write that post, well a large chunk of it anyway, it is currently on the little notepad app on my ipad which is at home. Hopefully I will remember to send myself the notes so I can work on it some more and share with you the emotional stuff from this weekend.

So for now I will just leave you with this post- the ridiculously fun, goofy, and wildly entertaining side of Portland and Fitbloggin'.
The Fitness of Fitbloggin'
So much exercise crammed into one weekend. I participated in Boot Camp, Cardio Dance, Yoga, Jump Fitness, and the 5K run and we walked almost everywhere we went. It was alot for just a few days but so much fun!
Jump Fitness

 I'm Flying...
Side plank dips

As seen in Runner's World, found this spot during the 5K

Beautiful backdrop for a morning run

The Food...More Importantly, the Desserts

So thankful to have vegan (and non-vegan but accommodating/adventurous) friends to join me while I ate all the vegan food. Portland has alot. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite!

Chocolate Hazelnut Bomb Cake (I think that is what it was called) at Portobello's

Brooke helped us finish the last bite. It was heavenly!

At Petunia's
We passed our initiation into the clean plate club...

At Voodoo- Annabel ordered the vegan Ol' Dirt Bastard (chocolate, oreos, peanut butter)

I am very excited that there is an entire shelf dedicated to vegan doughnuts
And since I am easily amused I order the vegan Cock and Balls donut and made penis jokes non-stop the rest of the weekend.

The Beer- not nearly enough time to try it all...

 Rock Bottom Brewery
 McMenamin's
 ROGUE!!!
No, I didn't drink that bottle- it actually came home in my suitcase. That just happens to be the same thing that was in the glass. Holding both up was difficult- my arms were so tired and they weighed a ton. Lol! This beer was called the New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta...

Randomness

In Portland so many random things happened. I saw a naked person, a woman who pulled a snake out of her hair, a man selling bad advice (at reasonable rates), a man who wanted us to throw water balloons at him, and I am sure there are more than I can think of right now.

The only really weird thing I captured on camera was this- Erika eating a raw oyster she got from some man on the street. This was the first time she had ever had one. I thought the photo progression was kind of funny...

Yep, a raw oyster on a beer full of beer...maybe not the best choice of the day...

My Goofy Side

I am sure you have seen a million pictures on here (selfies- I hate that word) of just me drinking a beer, or me sweaty-faced post workout, or whatever. In reality I love to take goofy photos but that's easier said than done when you are taking them alone. So this weekend I was thrilled to find a bunch of goofballs like me to take pictures with!

Erika- can you take my picture???
 Vogueing with Bang
 Mariana and I
Yep...
Me and Pauly (@runninpaola)! Don't you just love the photobomb- Thanks zombie-Brooke! LOL!

Happy Photos

And yes, I of course took tons of regular photos. Here are a few of my favorites.

 Dre!
 Erika, me and Annabel
Dani- sadly our only pic together from Fitbloggin'
And of course, the world famous Steve Gray!

I took over 400 pictures in just 72 hours so don't worry, there are definitely more to come. You know what the sad thing is? I know there are so many amazing people I didn't get to meet or take a picture with or give a hug to. Good thing there is always next year! Here's to Fitbloggin' 14 (in either Nashville or Austin) - I cannot wait to do this again!
